Apple iPhone 4 Review
The iPhone 4 is a smartphone developed by Apple Inc. It is the fourth generation iPhone, released after the iPhone 3GS. It was released on June 24, 2010 in Europe, America, Japan and numerous other locations.
Compared to its predecessor, the iPhone 4 feels a lot more substantial when held in the hand. Its squarer edges give it a more professional feel, as well as allow it to be held comfortably with one or both hands. Weighing a mere 137g, it is lightweight, relatively to bulkier smartphones on the market.
The display on the device has been improved drastically, with colours standing out vividly. Comparing it to previous generations makes this clear, with crisper fonts and better low light reading. One of the main drawbacks to the iPhone 4 is the weakness the display has when the device is dropped. It cracks easily and the replacement screen is always costly. It is wise to get the device covered by insurance incase this happens.
The camera now features a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera with flash as well as a VGA on the front side, allowing for video calls to be made. The rear facing camera feature 5x optical zoom and is capable of recording HD video in 720p at 30 frames per second. Whilst it isn’t the best camera on a smartphone, it doesn’t lack the ability to take fairly clear shots and video. However, zooming in to take a shot can reduce the quality, so I found that it is best to take the shot zoomed out and editing it at a later stage.

The software used in all Apple smartphone is iOS, the latest of which is iOS 7. The software is clean, easy to navigate and retains a professional, high quality look. One of the key advantages of the software is safety. It gives the device solidarity and prevents the majority of malicious software from taking control of it.
One of the things you will never miss out on is the availability of applications on the iPhone 4. The App store contains millions of games, movies, music and more. Thousands of apps are free, so you can get downloading right away! As well as this, the device comes with numerous pre-installed apps. These include iBooks, iTunes, Maps, Podcast and more.
Battery Capacity & Battery Life
The smartphone features a built-in rechargeable battery.
With the power of the phone and usage of the 3G network comes a downside; the lack of sufficient battery life. Out on the road browsing the web reduced the device from full charge to completely flat in a matter of hours. The battery life can be prolonged by closing apps from the multitask bar, reducing screen brightness level and using the slow, albeit less power hungry 2G network. However Apple need to work on increasing the battery life of their smartphones to meet the demand of users. I would recommend purchasing an additional battery pack if you are a heavy user of the device. Some have been critical of the battery being locked into place, which means spare batteries cannot be carried to replace ones needed charge.
The iPhone 4 also comes with accessories, which include the USB charger and official Apple earphones. The USB allows the smartphone to be charged directly from a PC or mains socket. The Apple earphones have been specially designed to minimize external noise and stay fixed inside the users’ ear.
The device has a high-speed A4 processor, making multitasking, browsing and downloading very fast. Apple products are also known for their high quality and this product certainly meets the standards. The camera is fairly decent for a smartphone and the App store is brilliant.
One drawback of the device is the high cost. It can be very discerning for consumers who may veer away from spending such a high amount. Another concern is the low battery life, which is a major factor considered by consumers who constantly use their smartphone on the go.
I would highly recommend the iPhone 4 as a phone to buy for the reasons stated in this review. It has a balance of power and capabilities and maximizes the use of Apple software to deliver a great experience. Calls are clear, text messaging is easy and web browsing is an enjoyable experience. Overall it is a valuable investment and is sure to meet your smartphone needs for a number of years.
