Snapchat App Review
One of the most popular social media apps on the Google Play store and Apple iTunes app store is Snapchat. Snapchat is a fun, interactive way that users can send pictures or videos to their friends. The twist is that the pictures or videos can only be seen for a certain period of time.
The user sending the picture or video can specify how long she wants the receiving user to be able to see the picture or video. After the predetermined time has passed, the image or video is automatically “deleted.” The receiving user and sender cannot view the sent item any longer. Furthermore, not only can users send pictures and videos, a short line if text can be written on the picture or video. Senders can even doodle on the image as well!
It should be noted that the main point of Snapchat is being able to send images or videos. Otherwise, why not just use a normal chatting site? Sending a picture or video greatly enhances the experience and as people say, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” Having a visual of what’s going on really brightens the chatting experience and adds a new perspective to phone messaging.
Some people may be wondering, “Why not just video chat?” Well, the answer is that when you are video chatting with someone, you are dedicating a certain amount of your time and attention for a video call. Snapchat allows users to see what their friends are up to at a glance. With Snapchat, I find it to be much better for casual conversations over a long period of time.
Snapchat has recently updated their app and added a new feature called “Snapchat Stories.” Snapchat Stories allows users to compile a set of interesting snaps that they have taken and to place them on display to friends. By adding snaps to “my story,” your friends can view your snap an unlimited amount of times for 24 hours. Snapchat Stories is a really cool way of indirectly showing your friends what you are up to.
A drawback of Snapchat is that it may be possible to take screenshots of snaps. Therefore, users may want to reconsider sending overly private photos or videos. Snapchat has implemented safety features in an attempt to prevent snaps from being saved, however the measures taken are not guaranteed to always work (especially, if an external camera captures the Snapchat screen).
I really enjoy using Snapchat, however my main concern is that sometimes I don’t receive snaps. This issue is really annoying, however it has been supposedly fixed thanks to the new updates. If you are having this issue, I suggest that you log out of Snapchat, close the Snapchat app, restart the app, and log back into Snapchat to see if you receive any new snaps. Also, I find the layout of the menus to be a little bit confusing, but I find that the new update has simplified things a little bit.
Overall, Snapchat is a fun, easy way of staying connected with your friends and I personally cannot go for a day without using it.
Fun, interested, intuitive, connects me with my friends, doesn’t take up too much time, doesn’t drain battery
Had issues receiving snaps, menus can be a little bit confusing
